Bosphorus, Beauty and Food: Pleasant Journey through Istanbul
About this experience
Welcome to a rich, picturesque, and delicious journey through Istanbul! You will explore local embassies and mansions of wealthy city dwellers from the water, observe the lives and rituals of fishermen, and explore the coastal area of Sarıyer. You will also taste Turkish dairy desserts, freshly prepared fish, and flaky pastries called börek.
What to Expect
Beautiful and informative cruise along the Bosphorus
You will ride an authentic city boat called 'vapur' and enjoy mesmerizing views of the Bosphorus, residences, embassies, and mansions of wealthy Istanbulites. Some of these sights may seem familiar as they are often featured in popular Turkish TV series. I will talk about real estate prices in these areas, reminisce about famous sultans, and share legends about palaces and private properties.
Inside Istanbul
After the 'vapur' journey, you will embark on a fascinating four-hour walk through the unique neighborhoods of the city. You will observe the daily lives of fishermen, marvel at the views of the Third Bosphorus Bridge, visit the mausoleum of a revered Turkish saint, and learn why his tomb is covered with silver threads. Additionally, you will stroll through the non-touristy Sarıyer district, paradoxically combining sophistication and seclusion, expensive coastal houses, and semi-ruined mansions.
Gastronomic Delights
Istanbul is a city where you can find dining venues for every taste and budget. We will not go to expensive restaurants but visit democratic places offering an excellent price-quality ratio. You will taste freshly grilled fish, delicious flaky pastries börek, and local dairy desserts such as sütlaç and kazandibi. Afterwards, we will take a leisurely walk along the waterfront and return by boat.
