About this experience
In Istanbul, different religions coexist in peace and harmony. Islam and Christianity closely interact with each other, which is reflected in the city's culture making it diverse and tolerant. You will visit the main temples of the Ecumenical Patriarchate that guard important relics, and learn their histories.
What to expect
- Church of St. George - the spiritual center of world Orthodoxy and the main residence of the Constantinopolitan Patriarch. Here are kept important Christian relics: the column of Christ's flagellation, as well as the relics of Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian, and John Chrysostom.
- Church of Saint Stephen - the only steel church in the world and the pride of the Bulgarian people to whom its community belongs. Metal parts weighing about 500 tons for its construction were transported to Constantinople through the Danube River and the Black Sea.
- Eyup Sultan Mosque - one of the oldest mosques in the city, built after the conquest of Constantinople. Here lies buried Abu Ayyub al-Ansari - one of those who lived in the time of the Prophet Muhammad and accepted Islam.
