What to expect
Fascinating details about Fujairah
I will show you our route on my vintage headscarf-shaped map - it passes through the Rub Al Khali desert to the Hajar Mountains, where you will encounter six tunnels and several stops. Along the way, I will start telling you about the history of these places, as we will cross both the Sharjah and Fujairah emirates. You will learn how they were formed and what invasive wars this land has witnessed. We will stop in the Hajar Mountains, where you will understand why artists called them colorful, and enjoy the landscapes.
Next, you will stop at Lake Rafa, founded back in 1980. The lake is surrounded by a flower garden and an artificial waterfall and amazes with a beautiful view. The next stop is the village of Nad Al Maxar. It is a defensive fortress made of stone and clay, offering a wonderful panorama of the ocean and neighboring watchtowers.
Next, we will head to the top of Al Sukhub Mountain, where the Fen restaurant offers unforgettable views of the ocean and the coast of the town of Khorfakkan. On the way back, we will pass by a flower and animal farm completely surrounded by mountains.
We will definitely discuss the peculiarities of life in mountain villages and visit local markets. Here you can buy various goods - from exotic mangosteens and custard apples to handwoven carpets and luxurious flowers.
Beach relaxation by the Indian Ocean
In Fujairah, we will stay at a hotel, where lunch will be waiting for us. After that, you can relax on the beach with a stunning view of the Indian Ocean. Take air baths, swim, and if desired, explore the underwater world: at the hotel, you can rent a mask and fins. Beach relaxation will last until evening, which means we will have a whole day by the ocean.
Exploring medieval structures
On the way back, I will show you the ancient buildings of Fujairah. You will see the Al-Bidiya mosque and understand its uniqueness. You will inspect the Portuguese fortresses and discover how these structures appeared and what sustains them now. If we are lucky, we will encounter a bird with blue wings. I will explain where this species originated and why the people of Fujairah believe that the bird grants wishes.
