About this experience
Want to know how Istanbul looked before Ataturk? Karakoy district is not only the largest transport interchange, but also almost like a time machine. I will introduce you to the main attractions, architectural features, and share colorful stories of the past and present.
What to expect
Historical Peninsula
We will stroll along the local Arbat - the fashionable Istiklal Street, where you will be charmed by elegant buildings, and the famous retro tram will be running nearby. Karakoy is not only the breath of antiquity, but also a bright open-air art museum, exploring which you can come across the most unusual graffiti and small authentic cafes. Admiring the cozy alleys, almost unnoticed, we will find ourselves at the symbol of the city - the medieval Galata Tower. After inspecting it and learning the legend of the first flight across the Bosphorus, you will come to the picturesque embankment of the Golden Horn bay.
Jewish community
As you approach the cultural center "Museum of Turkish Jews," you will notice the elegant patriotic sculpture "Swift Flame." I will tell you what events the sculptor dedicated it to and about the 500th Anniversary Foundation, and the exhibition will reveal how the Jewish community was born, developed, and lived in the city. Despite the extensive collection, the museum complex is compact - it is located in a small building near the ancient Zulfaris Synagogue, the name of which translates as "bride's frill."
Organizational details
If desired, you can climb to the observation deck of the Galata Tower - 6.5 euros.
