About this experience
For art lovers of the Renaissance period and unusual stories, this route is for you! Walking from the magnificent Duomo to the romantic Navigli embankments, you will explore the city from unexpected angles: marvel at Leonardo's technical findings and optical illusions in Bramante's architecture, hear stories about Milanese ghosts and magicians, discover the heritage of Ancient Rome, visit the courtyard of an 'Italian Khrushchyovka', and explore the most bohemian district of Milan.
What to Expect
Luxurious Duomo and Donato Bramante's masterpiece
We will meet at the white-marble Duomo, the city's main cathedral: I'll tell you about its construction, architectural features, and even the local ghost living on the roof. Next, you will admire a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture — a temple with a clever optical illusion designed by the great Donato Bramante. Here I will tell you about the miracle that happened during its construction and introduce you to the intricacies of the architect's work in northern Italy.
Secrets of Non-touristy Milan
You will find yourself on the narrowest and most dangerous street where a serial killer operated, admire an altar by one of Leonardo da Vinci's best followers, and follow the footsteps of ancient Romans: see the amphitheater (Milan had its own Colosseum too!), forum, Roman columns, and building ruins, while learning about the city's peak in the first centuries AD. I will lead you to the house of an influential aristocratic family, who even have their own saint, show you medieval gates, quiet squares, and two of the most famous city churches with valuable relics. And, of course, I will tell you about the mystical history of Milan, considered the capital of magic.
Bohemian Atmosphere of Navigli Canals
Then we will stroll along the romantic embankments of the Navigli Canals, the favorite place of Milan's creative bohemia and artists. I will tell you how the ingenious Leonardo changed the canals and what similarities there are between Milan and Venice. Peeking into local charming courtyards, you will learn what an 'Italian Khrushchyovka' looks like and why laundry is not a women's job. It will be interesting!
Who Will Enjoy the Walk
For architecture enthusiasts, fans of exciting stories, and those who have visited Milan before and want to see more than what traditional guidebooks offer.
