I am waiting for you in the unique museum with a rich collection of author's carpets, dubbed as sun carpets. Seeing them, you will understand the reason for such a name. You will learn interesting facts about the art of carpet weaving and the symbolic language of patterns. And along the way, you will hear poignant stories from the personal and creative life of the author of these magical carpets - Kamil Aliyev.

What to Expect

  • You will visit the home-museum of the artist and carpet weaver Kamil Aliyev, where a rich collection of his works is exhibited. These are handmade carpets, watercolor sketches, samples of jewelry.
  • We will talk about the ancient art of carpet weaving, highly respected in Azerbaijan: from the history of its origins to the actual process - building the right composition, dyeing threads with natural dyes.
  • You will learn how the artist Aliyev invented a way to give wool threads a unique golden hue, inherent in all of his carpets, which is why they are called sun carpets.
  • Together we will unravel the mysteries of the symbolic language of the pattern and elements. We will discuss what portrait carpets are.
  • We will not only admire the amazing exhibits but also the ethnic interior of the museum. Authentic musical accompaniment, as well as photo and video materials that I will use in the storytelling, will easily transport you to the origins of carpet weaving.
  • At the end of the tour, I will treat you to Azerbaijani tea with Eastern sweets and dried fruits.

Organizational Details

  • Important: In the museum, I will ask you to put on shoe covers, which are provided at the entrance. We have a homely atmosphere, and all floors are covered with clean soft carpets. If you do not want to wear shoe covers, you can confidently take off your shoes and walk in socks on the carpets.
  • Photography and videography in the museum are allowed.
  • Children under 6 years old can visit the tour for free.
