About this experience
Embark on a fascinating stroll through the De Wallen area, home to the famous Red Light District with endless mazes of coffee shops, smart shops, and brightly lit renowned windows. I will show you one of Europe's most important historical and cultural centers from an insider's perspective, revealing its colors of freedom and audacity.
What to Expect
Walking tour of the legendary district
At a leisurely pace, you will explore the Red Light District and blend in with the crowd of tourists from all corners of the globe on its main avenue, where the iconic theater 'Casso Rosso', numerous strip cafes and brothels, marijuana and sex museums are located. You will learn how and why the Red Light District emerged on the historic square next to the main Oude kerk church and see two original monuments on it. I will explain in an accessible and delicate manner the spicy aspects of the local underworld life and try to dispel a plethora of myths and misconceptions associated with it.
Introduction to coffee shops and smart shops
Walking down the narrowest alley in Amsterdam, you will immerse yourself in the world of smart shops and coffee shops. Their concentration in the Red Light District is the highest in the city. I will gladly help newcomers navigate this unique world and provide addresses of the right places to purchase Amsterdam's 'desserts', the consumption of which may be punishable at home, but not in the tolerant Dutch capital. Perhaps, from theory, you will move on to practice and under my watchful eye, you will taste the 'pipe of peace'. The engaging walk will end in one of the traditional brown cafes in the city. Over a glass of the locals' favorite spirit, I will answer your questions and suggest where you can continue your evening.
