About this experience
No wonder Quebec City is called a little Europe: on my tour, you will see for yourself that Quebec is the most beautiful and the most French city in Canada. I will introduce you to its history and modern life. You will walk along narrow streets, admire architecture from all epochs, see ancient churches, a fortress, and the wonderful Château Frontenac. And I am sure you will fall in love with this city, just like all my travelers do!
What to Expect
Cultural Fusion
Quebec is one of the oldest cities in North America. Its center, Old Town, is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The main feature of Quebec is the blend of three cultures: French, English, and American. I will tell you its history, starting from the times of French colonization and ending with the quiet revolution in the 70s. You will understand the origins of Quebec separatism and why everything here is still in French.
Architectural Heritage
Americans come to Quebec "for Europe" - the city stands out for its richness of architectural styles. You will encounter all directions of French Renaissance, English Classicism, Victorian-era houses, Art Nouveau, and Art Deco. You will take a walk along the local Montmartre - a street where artists exhibit their paintings in the open air. On the famous Royal Square, you will feel the atmosphere of New France, and then admire the 19th-century architecture on the cozy Petit Champlain Street, where you can buy locally made products.
Postcard View
The fairytale Château Frontenac - the city's hallmark - is visible from almost any point in the city. In fact, it is a hotel designed by the American architect Bruce Price; I will tell you what inspired him during work and which VIP personalities stayed here. Continuing the theme of cultural coexistence, we will compare two cathedrals: the Catholic Notre-Dame de Québec and the Anglican Holy Trinity Cathedral. You will enjoy splendid views of the St. Lawrence River from the Dufferin Terrace. Explore the Parliament building and see the Quebec Citadel - I will share tips for visiting it.
We will also discuss modern life in Quebec: about the cold winter and hockey, traditional cuisine, education, and healthcare system. You will learn where most residents work, how the city lives today, and why Quebec is one of the best places for family life.
