Individual tour: Rome's Seven Hills Car Ride
About this experience
Rome is incredibly beautiful in the evening light, but during the day, under the sparkling sun rays, the Eternal City is magnificent! I invite you to see it for yourself by driving around the seven hills on which the capital is spread. In three hours, you will see more than in three days. My tour is designed for romantic, curious travelers who are ready to embrace the unexplored and absorb as much interesting and fascinating information as possible.
What to Expect
- Our journey will start on the Viminal Hill, where in 305 AD the Baths of Diocletian were opened, part of which has survived to this day—next to the modern Republic Square with its magnificent Naiad Fountain.
- Our next stop will be on the Esquiline Hill, where I will introduce you to one of Rome's main basilicas—Santa Maria Maggiore.
- We will drive along Via Cavour to the Colosseum, Rome's iconic landmark. I will not only tell you about the history of this ancient amphitheater but also about its architectural features, and from the terrace where we will stop, you can admire the Arch of Constantine, the Roman Forum, and the Palatine Hill, where the majestic ruins of the imperial palaces are preserved.
- Our path will then lead us to the Caelian Hill, on the top of which lies the Villa Celimontana, built in the 16th century.
- But the most romantic, fashionable, and green Aventine Hill, with its orange groves, terraces, and unforgettable views of the city. This is a favorite spot for couples in love, wedding processions, and all those who appreciate beauty, harmony, and tranquility. We will not pass by the “Keyhole” through which you can see three states at once.
- Descending from the hill, we will drive past the rose garden, where unique varieties of roses from all over the world are collected. In spring, the fragrance of this garden spreads throughout the neighborhood.
- The Capitoline Hill, despite being the smallest of Rome's seven hills, has always been considered a sacred place. Temples to Jupiter, Juno Moneta, and the goddess Minerva were built on the hill.
- We will pass by the Arch of Titus, and I will show you the spot where the Tiber waters washed ashore a basket with the twins Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome. According to legend, the Capitoline she-wolf found them here and nursed them with her milk.
- We will see the main sanctuary of the Christian world—the St. Peter's Basilica, climb the Janiculum Hill, and enjoy a magnificent city panorama from the top.
- To reach the seventh hill, the Quirinal, we will drive along the ancient wall built by Emperor Aurelian in the 3rd century AD. Passing under the Aurelian Wall arches, we will find ourselves on the most luxurious street in Rome—Via Veneto. A street where you feel like you are touching the “sweet life” from Federico Fellini's movie.
Organizational Details
- As the Roman government restricts car access to the city center once a month, in rare cases, the tour date may need to be rescheduled.
- Upon request, we can arrange a transfer from any point in the city center to our meeting place—for 35 euros.
