About this experience
Venetian snacks are as much of a city attraction as the waterfront, palaces, canals, and bridges. You will visit ancient 'bacari' cafes, enjoy the taste of mini sandwiches 'cichetti' and learn how Italians manage to maintain an excellent figure in one of the 'tastiest' countries in the world.
What to expect
A cup of aromatic coffee at St. Mark's Square
We will visit the main symbol of Venice – the ancient St. Mark's Square, with its history dating back to the 9th century. While sitting at the cozy table of an ancient cafe, I will tell you about the theft and miraculous recovery of the saint's relics. You will learn how the famous bell tower Campanile collapsed and was rebuilt. Enjoy the splendid live music and you might want to try the locals' favorite coffee with black pepper or sparkling prosecco. I will answer the most popular question among travelers, how Italians don't get fat eating so much pasta every day, and share recipes of popular Italian dishes and winemaking technologies.
A stroll through picturesque 'calle' and tasting 'cichetti'
We will walk through the narrow Venetian streets, across the famous Rialto and Academy bridges, and visit several local cafes called 'bacari'. You will taste 'cichetti', tiny sandwiches with various meat, fish, or cheese fillings, and feel the atmosphere of ancient Venetian establishments. On the way from one 'bacaro' to another, I will tell interesting stories about what we will see along the way, and announce the tasting at the next establishment. Upon your request, we can end the tour in a cozy restaurant that prepares pasta, seafood, meat dishes, and the most delicate dessert tiramisu, the name of which, by the way, originates from Venice.
