About this experience
A city with a 2000-year history that has been beautifully preserved and is rich in interesting sights and legends. We will walk through the same streets and squares that were walked by Celts, Romans, barefoot Franciscans, bishops, and craftsmen. You will see the picturesque Rhine, memorable places of the craftsmen's guild, the unusual Carnival Fountain Tinguely, and the beautiful Cathedral Square.
What to expect
- A church where you can get a haircut and have a beer. The only 'open' church of St. Elizabeth in Switzerland is amazing because, in addition to religious services, it hosts a variety of events not typical for Catholic cathedrals. Discos, exhibitions of Muslim and Buddhist cultures, and there is also a small bar in the church where you can drink any alcoholic beverage.
- You will learn about famous people who lived and contributed to the development of the city. And also about how Fedor Dostoevsky's visit to Basel influenced the writing of his novel 'The Idiot'.
- I will tell you about the significance of market squares in the Middle Ages and why almost every Israeli city has a Basel Street 'rehov Basel'.
- You will hear about how to defeat Basel's symbol - the mythical creature with a rooster's head and a dragon's body - the Basilisk.
- Visit the smallest museum in Switzerland.
- And in the summer, you can swim in the Rhine River without getting your clothes wet.
